From the fact the two sons are required to pay Richard's wife each year, it would seem that Mary is probably not the mother of at least two of Richard's sons. That and the fact that son Joseph and wife Mary are to share the same house but very specifically what part of the house also suggests a family quarrel of some kind. Apparently Richard thinks that someone is going to object to something in his will because he names three people as possible arbitrators of any family dispute over it.
It is interesting that Joseph and William must pay wife Mary but Samuel is not mentioned. Could Mary possibly be Samuel's mother but not Joseph and William's?
